Spiritual Meaning:
The image of an inscription often appears in dreams as we reach a certain stage of spiritual development, almost like a message from beyond.  Spiritually, this usually indicates the type of knowledge that needs to be recorded and can be passed onto other people.

Psychological / Emotional Perspective:
In dreams, an inscription appearing on, for instance, a rock would suggest old knowledge or wisdom. An inscription appearing in sand would suggest that the knowledge is either impermanent, or must be learnt quickly.

Everyday Material Aspects:
Any inscription in a dream is information that needs to be understood and internalized. Reading an inscription can suggest that something is understood in some way already, whereas not being able to read it suggests that more information or knowledge is required in order to complete a task.
